Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal On-Line is JASNA's digital, peer-reviewed publication. It offers essays on Jane Austen’s writing, her world, and her legacy in literature and other media. Each issue includes papers from JASNA’s most recent Annual General Meeting as well as essays by scholars and others on a variety of topics.
In Persuasion Jane Austen contrasts three sets of characters, and questions which set is most fit to have leadership of the country in their hands. There are the people of high birth like the Elliots and Dalrymples, who live empty, useless lives, who are inhospitable and snobbish, and over-concerned with appearances.
Persuasions is JASNA’s annual, peer-reviewed print journal, which is included in JASNA membership. It offers essays on Jane Austen’s writing, her world, and her legacy in literature and other media. Each issue includes papers from JASNA's most recent Annual General Meeting as well as essays by scholars and others on a variety of topics.
As Persuasion was Austen's last completed work, it is accepted as her most maturely written novel, showing a refinement of literary conception indicative of a woman approaching 40 years of age. Her use of free indirect speech in narrative was in full evidence by 1816.

Overview. Persuasion is a novel written by Jane Austen, published posthumously in 1817. The story revolves around Anne Elliot, who falls in love with a young naval officer named Frederick Wentworth. However, due to the expectations of her society and the interference of her family and friends, Anne breaks off the engagement.

Unlike her novel Northanger Abbey, with which it was published, Persuasion (written 1815–16) is a work of Austen’s maturity. Like Mansfield Park and Emma, it contains subdued satire and develops the comedy of character and manners.

Articles from recent issues are distributed electronically through EBSCO and Thomson Gale. Issues that are out of print are available on this site, and more will be added in the future.
