Hohenzollern Castle is a hilltop castle located on the mountain Hohenzollern, an isolated promontory of the Swabian Jura 855 metres (2,805 ft) above sea level, 234 metres above and to the south of Hechingen, Germany, approximately 50 kilometres (31 mi) south of Stuttgart, capital of Baden-Württemberg.

Nach der ersten Anlage von 1267 und der zweiten Anlage von 1454 ist sie die dritte Burg an diesem Ort. Sie wurde 1850 bis 1867 durch König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. von Preußen von Friedrich August Stüler im neugotischen Stil erbaut und gehört zu den bedeutendsten Burgen Europas.

Brief HISTORY OF HOHENZOLLERN PALACE. The original fortress at Sigmaringen was first mentioned in 1077 in the chronicles of the Petershausen monastery. The oldest parts of the original castle and fortress are hidden beneath the alterations and rebuilding that took place between the 17th and 19th century.
Castle History - Burg Hohenzollern EN. The first personal related reference of the Hohenzollern House dates back to 1061 ("Wezil et Burchardus de Zolorin"). First direct mention of the Castle complex ("Castro Zolre") was in 1267.
