The swing era brought to swing music Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and by 1938 Ella Fitzgerald. Armstrong, who had heavily influenced jazz as its greatest soloist in the 1920s when working with both small bands and larger ones, now appeared only with big swing bands.

22 de mar. de 2016 · It is clear from those recordings that swing (as a verb) first appeared in the playing of a few pioneering jazz soloists, with trumpeter/singer Louis Armstrong being the fountainhead. His recording of “West End Blues,” is a prime example of why in a very real sense, he was a key figure in the birth and development of swing.
