  3. The Duke of Marlborough died on 16 June 1722 and William’s mother, Henrietta, succeeded by the terms of a special Act of Parliament. As her heir William assumed the title, Marquess of Blandford, and he himself received an annual income of £3000 by the terms of his grandfather's will, which made him independent of his parents.
