  2. The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) is a rigorous, highly selective school encompassing programs in music, dance, theatre, and musical theatre, as well as music theory, musicology, music education, and more.

  3. We provide an expansive approach to the relevance of dance within cultures and communities that offers a combination of world-class dance training within a leading research university. We provide diverse perspectives, and integrate practice and theory to prepare dance artists for resilient and multi-faceted careers in our rapidly evolving fields.

  4. The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is the undergraduate and graduate school for the performing arts of the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. The school was founded in 1880 as the Ann Arbor School of Music. It was originally independent from the university until 1929.

  7. Apply for Undergraduate Admission. Complete the following two steps: Submit the Common Application on or before December 1. Current U-M students should complete the cross-campus transfer application rather than the Common Application.
