The Marcus-Nelson Murders was based on a notorious miscarriage of justice, the Wylie-Hoffert murders (aka 'the Career Girl Murders'), a 1963 case of the brutal rape and murder of two young professional Manhattan women and the subsequent framing by the police of an Afro-American man, George Whitmore Jr, to take the rap.
