Putney (/ ˈ p ʌ t n i /) is an affluent district of south London, England, in the London Borough of Wandsworth, five miles (eight kilometres) southwest of Charing Cross. The area is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London.

Putney was occupied in prehistoric and Roman times, and there was a Roman settlement in the Star and Garter area. The medieval village was almost entirely in and around the present High Street and was sustained both by farming and ferrying.
