Joe Cronin. Joseph Edward Cronin (October 12, 1906 – September 7, 1984) was an American professional baseball player, manager and executive. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop, most notably as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Joe Cronin was named as the 11 th general manager in franchise history on May 9, 2022, after serving in the role in an interim capacity since December of 2021.

Joe Cronin played and managed for the Pirates, Senators and Red Sox, and was a leader in the AL. He hit .301 with 170 home runs and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1956.
