  4. Eleanor was born at "The Woodyard," in Prince George's County to Anne Digges Darnall (1685-ca. 1750) and Henry Darnall II (1682-1759). She was one of very few women in colonial America to attend school and was sent to Europe to complete her education. Around 1727, she married Daniel Carroll (1696-1751), a wealthy merchant, and Irish immigrant.
