The BFA program is designed to provide students with a full range of technical and practical skills, to teach them to think critically about their chosen mediums, and to guide their artistic growth as they experiment with different forms of cinematic expression.
Challenge the boundaries of artmaking: CalArts School of Art offers BFA and MFA degrees in Art, Photography and Media, Art and Technology, and Graphic Design.
At the BFA level, students proceed from foundation studies in composition, experimental sound practices, theory, technology and professional development, and go on to create a portfolio of original work—all the while cultivating their own distinctive artistic profiles.
The first two BFA years are intended to create a strong foundation for art making and critical thinking; the final two BFA years are intended to allow more personal exploration, grounded in one-on-one study, exhibitions or projects, and corresponding reviews.
BFA. 4-Year Program. Over the course of the Program, BFA Graphic Design students create a body of work that is not simply a string of assignments—but which is uniquely theirs—and prepares them to carve an independent path into graphic design practice with a compelling portfolio marked by strong ideas expressed through form.
