Ferdinand Hodler (Berna, 14 de março de 1853 – Genebra, 19 de maio de 1918) foi um pintor suíço precursor da pintura expressionista. Vida. Ferdinand Hodler era o mais velho de cinco crianças. Seu pai, Jean Hodler, era carpinteiro; sua mãe, Marguerite Neukomm, vinha de uma família de camponeses.

In these works, Hodler explored such universal and psychologically fraught themes as sleep, dreams, death, and love, often with erotic overtones. Sources from the first half of the twentieth century tend to date The Dream of the Shepherd to 1893 (see, e.g., Loosli 1922).
