Steve Jobs was a student at Reed College in the fall of 1972 and majored in English. After just one semester, he dropped out but continued living on campus with friends and auditing classes, including Shakespeare, modern dance, and calligraphy.

He was a pioneer of the personal computer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s, along with his early business partner and fellow Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Jobs was born in San Francisco in 1955 and adopted shortly afterwards. He attended Reed College in 1972 before withdrawing that same year.
Steven P. Jobs ’76 died on October 5, 2011, in Cupertino, California, from cancer. Even though he was officially enrolled at Reed for a single semester, he was the quintessential Reedie. It is far beyond the scope of this obituary to trace his protean career at Apple or assess his accomplishments and failures (and there were many of each).
