Maria Owings Shriver (born November 6, 1955) is an American journalist, author, a member of the Kennedy family, former First Lady of California, and the founder of the nonprofit organization The Women's Alzheimer's Movement.
MARIA SHRIVER’S MARCH TO END ALZHEIMER’S: Maria organized the first ever March to End Alzheimer’s, a multigenerational 5K “march” in Long Beach, CA. The inspiring event raised over $270,000 dollars for the Alzheimer’s Association and served as the kick-off to The Women’s Conference, then the nation’s premier gathering of women.
For over 25 years, the conference steadily became better-known. Its popularity increased significantly after the 2007 election of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Governor of California with the support of his wife, Maria Shriver.
The Women’s Conference is a non-profit, non-partisan organization led by California First Lady Maria Shriver and her belief in the “power of WE.”
