Formed in November 2007 and named after her grandfather, Kiyoko performed as the lead singer and songwriter for Hede. Despite not knowing each other beforehand, the band members became very close and experienced local success. 2007–2011: The Stunners
In 2007, Kiyoko was approached by former pop-star Vitamin C to join an all-girl singing and dancing group. She joined Allie Gonino, Tinashe, Kelsey Sanders (later replaced by Lauren Hudson in 2009), and Marisol Esparza to form the Stunners. Kiyoko uploaded a live studio mix of "Hunting Man" to her YouTube channel on January 23, a solo song which is written by herself and also features her on bass. On October 15, 2012, Kiyoko launched a fan-funded music project. Fans were able to pledge on a copy of her debut EP, along with other items for funding.
