George Ryan Ross III (born August 30, 1986), is an American musician, singer and songwriter who served as the first guitarist of American rock band Panic! at the Disco from 2004 to July 6, 2009.
Ryan created Panic! at the Disco with high school friend, Spencer Smith, in roughly 2004. The duo later recruited Brent Wilson to take over bass. Panic! was originally a three-piece with Ryan Ross as the lead vocalist, but due to him later becoming too sick to sing, Brent invited his friend, Brendon Urie, to be a guest vocalist. Due to Brendon's skill, the band made a mutual decision to replace Ryan with Brendon as lead vocalist. Ryan continued playing guitar.
Ryan has been cited to have been responsible for a majority of the material on the band's first two studio albums, having been the band's leader, head writer, and usually decider in their creative direction.
Ryan built a close relationship with their second bassist, Jon Walker, and during recording for the band's third studio album, Ryan and Jon continued to work together on music from their homes while Spencer Smith moved in with Brendon Urie. As the album neared completion, Brendon became frustrated with the band continuing in the direction of Pretty. Odd., and motioned in favor of returning to the pop sound of their debut album. After several disagreements, Ryan met with Spencer over lunch, where the two came to a mutual agreement to "do their own thing for a while".
On July 6, 2009, Ross and Walker announced their departure from the band.
Following their departure, Ross and Walker formed a band called The Young Veins. They released their debut album, Take a Vacation!, on June 8, 2010.
The Young Veins disbanded indefinitely in December 2010. Through a Tweet, Walker stated: “The Young Veins has been on hiatus and will remain that way for the time being. Thanks for getting the album and coming to the shows.”
