Family. A descendant of an ancient Welsh family, Sir Richard was a landed gentleman of Buckinghamshire, the son of Geoffrey Pole, Esquire of Worrell, Cheshire, and of Wythurn in Medmenham, Buckinghamshire (1431 – 1474 / 4 January 1479 [clarification needed], interred in Bisham Abbey).

Sir Richard Pole (1462–1505) was a Welsh supporter of King Henry VII created Knight of the Garter and married to Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury, a member of the Plantagenet dynasty, to reinforce the Tudor alliance between the houses of Lancaster and York.
When Sir Richard Pole was born in 1462, in Medmenham, Buckinghamshire, England, United Kingdom, his father, Geoffrey De La Pole, was 31 and his mother, Edith St John, was 33. He married Margaret Plantagenet, Countess of Salisbury on 22 September 1491, in Ellesborough, Buckinghamshire, England.
