Der römisch-katholische Dom, damals noch Pfarrkirche, wurde 1279 dem Patrozinium der Hl. Jungfrau Maria und des Hl. Rupert unterstellt. Von 1468 bis 1785 war er Kathedrale des Bistums Wiener Neustadt.
