Established in 1680, St. Philip's is the oldest European-American religious congregation in South Carolina. The first St. Philip's Church, a wooden building, was built between 1680 and 1681 at the corner of Broad and Meeting streets on the present day site of St. Michael's Episcopal Church.

St. Philip’s has played a vital role in the spiritual, cultural, and civic life of the people of Charleston and this nation for over three centuries, and in its churchyard are buried leading patriots who signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

This church is the third building to house the congregation, which was formed by Charles Town colonists.

1 de ago. de 2016 · Located at 146 Church Street, St. Philip’s was the first English church established in South Carolina. In 1680 Originall and Millicent Jackson, “being excited with a pious zeal,” donated four acres of land for a house of worship.
We are a community that worships God in the tradition of the Anglican Church, whose liturgy is simultaneously traditional and joyful. Our 8:15 a.m. service could be described as quiet and contemplative, and our 10:30 a.m. service as majestic and vibrant, drawing upon the rich tradition of both English and American hymnody.
