Princess Sophie of Bavaria (Sophie Friederike Dorothea Wilhelmine; 27 January 1805 – 28 May 1872) was the daughter of King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria and his second wife, Caroline of Baden. The identical twin sister of Queen Maria Anna of Saxony, Sophie became Archduchess of Austria by marriage to Archduke Franz Karl of Austria.

Habsburg. Sophie of Bavaria. Archduchess of Austria (non-ruling member of the dynasty) Born 27 January 1805 in Munich. Died 28 May 1872 in Vienna. The daughter of King Maximilian I of Bavaria, Sophie married Archduke Franz Karl, the brother of Emperor Ferdinand I in 1824.
Daughter of the King of Bavaria, Princess Sophie was married for political reasons to Archduke Franz Karl, second son of Emperor Franz, in 1824. She soon recognized the personal weaknesses of the men who now surrounded her, and although Franz enjoyed the image of the ‘good Emperor’, he was no longer young.
