Pittstown is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 5,735 at the 2010 census. It is in the northern part of the county.
At that time the area was known as Pittstown, so named for Peter Pitts who had purchased the land from Phelps and Gorham. On February 12, 1808, Pittstown became divided. The western half was named Livonia (after a Russian province which bore the same name).
