John O'Halloran is an Irish scientist, university lecturer, ornithologist and academic administrator. In August 2021, he was appointed as the sixteenth President of University College Cork. Biography. O’Halloran was born in Cork, the second youngest of eight children. He is a past pupil of Douglas Community School.

Prof. John O’Halloran is President of University College Cork. He is an academic leader with an ambitious vision for the future of higher education, and an advocate for inclusivity in education, the transformative power of collaboration and forging a sustainable future.
Biography. John is currently the Vice-President for Teaching and Learning at University College Cork where he holds the Chair in Zoology. His previous positions include: Head of School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Science. Vice Head of the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science.
3 Aug 2021. UCC’s Governing Body has appointed Professor John O’Halloran as the 16th President of the University with effect from 30 th August 2021. Professor O’Halloran has been acting as Interim President of UCC since September 2020. Prior to his appointment, he was the Deputy President and Registrar and led UCC’s first Academic Strategy.
My Background. A proud alumnus of University College Cork, I graduated with a degree in Zoology in 1984, a PhD in 1987 and was awarded a DSc for my published works in 2009. I have published over 250 research papers and a number of books, details of which are set out in my publication list.
Professor John O’Halloran is President at University College Cork since August 2021. Prior to this he was the Deputy President & Registrar and led UCC’s first Academic Strategy to reimagine the curriculum, transform assessment and nurture graduate attributes to. position UCC students for their future world of work.
