Atiq Rahimi é um escritor e cineasta afegão nascido em Cabul, Afeganistão, no ano de 1962. Tem dupla nacionalidade francesa e afegã. Durante a guerra nos anos 80 saiu de seu país, já que estudou em uma escola franco-afegã, refugiou-se na França, onde vive até hoje.

Atiq Rahimi vit la guerre d'invasion soviétique en Afghanistan, qui débute en 1979. En 1984, il se réfugie au Pakistan. Après avoir demandé l'asile politique à la France, accordé en 1984, il obtient son doctorat en audiovisuel à la Sorbonne. An adaptation of the novel Our Lady of the Nile by Rwandan writer Scholastique Mukasonga, the film is set in Rwanda in 1994, amid the beginning of the tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi peoples that would eventually culminate in the Rwandan genocide.
The Patience Stone (Persian: سنگ صبور) is a 2012 French-Afghan war drama film directed by Atiq Rahimi, based on his 2008 novel of the same title. Written jointly by Jean-Claude Carrière and the director, the film stars Golshifteh Farahani, Hamid Djavadan, Massi Mrowat, and Hassina Burgan.
