Um ano antes do golpe que instituiu a ditadura militar em 1926, a I República declarou que a “Festa de Portugal se celebrará no dia 10 de Junho de cada ano”. O Estado Novo manteve a data como Festa de Portugal, elevando-a à condição de feriado nacional em 1929.
