Judith Herrin FSA (/ ˈ h ɛr ɪ n /; born 1942) is an English archaeologist, byzantinist, and historian of Late Antiquity. She was a professor of Late Antique and Byzantine sudies and the Constantine Leventis Senior Research Fellow at King's College London (now emerita).
After a long career teaching Byzantine and medieval history, notably at Princeton University and King’s College London, JH retired to pursue research, which is currently centred on the city of Ravenna and its anonymous Cosmographer.

Research interests (short) Byzantine archaeology and other fields including women in Byzantium and Byzantium in relation to Islam and the West. Professor Herrin is Profesor emerita in the department as well as the Constantine Leventis Senior Research Fellow.

15 de dez. de 2021 · While Ravenna’s history has been the subject of a vast scholarship, including at least three significant recent monographs, Judith Herrin’s approach is based on a fundamental shift of perspective: she rejects the label of ‘Late Antiquity’ as a useful periodisation, choosing to speak of ‘Early Christendom’ instead.
