Rosalie Mackenzie Poe (December 1810 – July 21, 1874) was an American poet and the sister of Edgar Allan Poe.
Rosalie Mackenzie Poe, née Rosalie Poe, was the estranged sister of Edgar Allan Poe. Rosalie, born approximately December 1810 in Norfolk, Virginia, was the last of Elizabeth Arnold Poe’s children (Mabbott 520).
On Dec. 8, 1811, Mrs. Poe died in destitute circumstances in rented rooms over a Richmond millinery shop. After that, childless Mrs. John Allan took little Edgar home, while Mrs. William MacKenzie, another Richmond matron, adopted Rosalie and give her the name of MacKenzie as her middle baptismal name.
27 de dez. de 2014 · On the death of his mother, 8 December 1811, in Richmond, Virginia, Poe is taken into the home of John Allan, of the merchant firm of Ellis & Allan, and Allan is added to his name. Rosalie is taken into the home of the William Mackenzies, neighbors of the Allans, and Mackenzie is added to hers.

The display will feature a number of Poe family artifacts including clothing, documents, and a Poe family bible. The highlight of the exhibit will be a piece of original artwork painted by Poe’s sister Rosalie.
