Sydney Parkinson (c. 1745 – 26 January 1771) was a Scottish botanical illustrator and natural history artist. He was the first European artist to visit Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti. Parkinson was the first Quaker to visit New Zealand.

Sydney Parkinson (1745?-1771), natural history draughtsman, was born in Edinburgh, the younger of two sons of Joel Parkinson, a brewer and a Quaker. Although apprenticed to a wool draper, Parkinson's preference was for botanical drawing at which he showed great skill.
Sydney Parkinson was born in Scotland and studied draughtsmanship under William de la Cour as part of his plans to work in the fabric industry. Parkinson’s drawing skills led him to focus his career on botanical drawing instead.
