Mary Doreen Archer, Baroness Archer of Weston-super-Mare, DBE (née Weeden; born 22 December 1944) is a British scientist specialising in solar power conversion. She is married to Jeffrey Archer, a former deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. Archer is the current Chancellor of the University of Buckingham.
Dame Mary Archer is a former academic and solar energy specialist who has been appointed as a NEBM of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) in 2024. She has a long history of involvement in energy-related organisations and institutions, such as the National Energy Foundation, the Science Museum Group, and Cambridge University Hospitals.
Carefully coiffed and clad in a beautifully-cut suit, Archer also looks radiant, which is rather surprising given that she’s recently been battling with an aggressive form of bladder cancer. So aggressive, in fact, that her entire bladder had to be removed.
