Known by students and colleagues alike as “Viki,” he was among the most accomplished and admired physicists of the twentieth century.

Weisskopf was born in Vienna, Austria, on September 19, 1908. In his nineties and increasingly frail, he died at home in Newton, Massachusetts, on April 22, 2002.
