Charles FitzCharles, 1st Earl of Plymouth. Charles FitzCharles, 1st Earl of Plymouth (1657 – 17 October 1680), was the illegitimate son of King Charles II of England and Catherine Pegge. He had a sister, Catherine, who is believed to have become a nun. [2]
25 de abr. de 2024 · Charles Fitzcharles, Earl of Plymouth was buried in Westminster Abbey on 18th January 1681 (modern dating) in the vault in Henry VII's chapel formerly occupied by Oliver Cromwell. He has no monument or gravestone. He was probably born in Bruges about 1657, an illegitimate son of Charles II by Catherine Pegge.
Charles FitzCharles, 1st Earl of Plymouth gained the title of 1st Earl of Plymouth in 1675. He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3. He had a sister called Catherine FitzCharles who became a nun. His mother went on to marry Sir Edward Greene of Samford in Essex, but they had no children.

24 de mai. de 2024 · On October 17, 1680, 23-year-old Charles FitzCharles, Earl of Plymouth died from dysentery, a common killer of soldiers for centuries due to poor hygienic conditions in army camps. Charles’ body was returned to England where he was buried in Westminster Abbey .

Robert, 1st Earl of Plymouth (1857–1923), and his family are buried here. The first creation was in 1675 for Charles FitzCharles, one of the dozens of illegitimate children of King Charles II and one of a few by his mistress Catherine Pegge. He died without heirs in 1680, and the title became extinct.
