David Beaton (also Beton or Bethune; [a] c. 1494 – 29 May 1546) was Archbishop of St Andrews and the last Scottish cardinal prior to the Reformation.
David Beaton was a Scottish cardinal and statesman who promoted a close alliance between Scotland and France and who was an implacable opponent of the Scottish Reformation. Beaton became archbishop of St. Andrews in 1539 and papal legate in Scotland in 1544.
