Summary. Historians have devoted very little attention to Ferrante d'Este, Duke Ercole I's second son. If he went down in history, it was because of his participation in Giulio d'Este's plot against his half-brother Alfonso, which ended up with Ferrante dying in prison in 1540 and Giulio being freed 19 years later.

Ferrante d’Este nasce a Napoli il 19 settembre 1477 dal duca di Ferrara Ercole I d’Este e di Eleonora d’Aragona a sua volta figlia del Re di Napoli Ferrante I. Noti fra i suoi fratelli, Alfonso d’Este, che succedette al padre, e Ippolito, famoso cardinale, non dimenticando Isabella d’Este che andrà in moglie a Francesco II Gonzaga.
