Sir John McEwen GCMG CH (29 March 1900 – 20 November 1980) was an Australian politician and farmer who served as the 18th prime minister of Australia from 1967 to 1968, in a caretaker capacity following the disappearance of prime minister Harold Holt.
John McEwen was a Country Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister who became Prime Minister for 23 days in 1967 after Harold Holt's disappearance. He was known for his high tariff policy and his trade negotiations with various countries.
Sir John McEwen was a farmer, politician, and prime minister of Australia from Dec. 19, 1967, to Jan. 10, 1968. A member of the House of Representatives (1934–71), McEwen served in several ministerial posts during World War II, including deputy prime minister (1958–71), and was acting prime.
