Philip Gidley King (23 April 1758 – 3 September 1808) was a British politician who was the third Governor of New South Wales. When the First Fleet arrived in January 1788, King was detailed to colonise Norfolk Island for defence and foraging purposes.

Philip Gidley King (1758-1808), naval officer and governor, joined the navy in late 1770 and served in the East Indies and American waters. He was commissioned lieutenant in 1778. In the Ariadne he served under Arthur Phillip in the Channel Fleet.
Philip Gidley King (1817-1904), pastoralist, was born on 31 October 1817 at Parramatta, eldest son of Captain Phillip Parker King and his wife Harriet, née Lethbridge. At 5 he went with his father to England and in 1824-25 he was at school at Bexley Place near Deptford.

Philip Gidley-King was a British Naval Officer serving with Captain Arthur Phillip as second Lieutenant on the HMS Sirius during the First Fleet voyage in 1788. On Governor Phillip’s orders, Lieutenant King established another penal settlement on Norfolk Island.
Philip Gidley King (31 October 1817 – 5 August 1904) was a pastoralist and politician from the colony of New South Wales. He served as a member of New South Wales Legislative Council from 1880 until his death in 1904.
