Chandra Shekhar was an Indian politician who served as the Prime Minister of India for a brief period in 1990-1991. He was a socialist leader who joined the Congress party and later formed a breakaway faction of the Janata Dal.
Chandra Shekhar (born July 1, 1927, Ibrahimpatti, India—died July 8, 2007, New Delhi) was a politician and legislator, who served as prime minister of India from November 1990 to June 1991. Shekhar was a leading member of the Socialist Party before he joined the ruling Congress Party in 1964.

Chandra Shekhar (17 April 1927 – 8 July 2007), also known as Jananayak, was an Indian politician who served as the Prime Minister of India, between 10 November 1990 and 21 June 1991. He headed a minority government of a breakaway faction of the Janata Dal with outside support from the Indian National Congress.
