Durante os últimos dias da guerra civil chinesa, ele conhece e corteja uma bonita doutora eurasiana, a viúva de um general nacionalista. Mas quando eles começam a se apaixonar, a pressão dos amigos dele e da família chinesa dela os faz interromper o relacionamento inter-racial.

Synopsis. In 1949, in the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong, Eurasian doctor Han Suyin is summoned to the hospital emergency ward to tend to a young Chinese girl. Suyin's friend, British doctor John Keith, places the dedicated Suyin in charge of the refugee, and soon after, invites her to attend a cocktail party with him.
