Edward Cecil Guinness, 1st Earl of Iveagh, KP, GCVO, FRS (10 November 1847 – 7 October 1927) was an Anglo-Irish businessman and philanthropist. A member of the prominent Guinness family, he was the head of the family's eponymous brewing business, making him the richest man in Ireland.

The Guinness family is an extensive Irish family known for its accomplishments in brewing, banking, politics, and religious ministry. The brewing branch is particularly well known among the general public for producing the dry stout Guinness Beer. [2] . The founder of the dynasty, Arthur Guinness, is confirmed to have had McCartan origins. [3] .
He opened one of Ireland’s earliest public swimming pools, the Iveagh Baths. Edward was rewarded by being made a baronet of Castleknock in 1885 (the location of his country residence, Farmleigh). He was subsequently made Baron Iveagh, of Iveagh in the County of Down, in 1891, the historic title of the Clan Magennis.
