Richard Blanco (born February 15, 1968) is an American poet, public speaker, author, playwright, and civil engineer. He is the fifth poet to read at a United States presidential inauguration, having read the poem "One Today" for Barack Obama's second inauguration.
Selected by President Obama as the fifth Presidential Inaugural Poet in U.S. history, Richard Blanco was the youngest, the first Latinx, immigrant, and gay person to serve in that a role. In 2023, he was awarded the National Humanities Medal from the NEH by President Biden.
Richard Blanco is a Cuban-American poet, engineer, and educator who served as the fifth inaugural poet of the United States in 2013. He has published several collections of poetry, memoirs, and a book of photographs of Cuba.
