Sir William St Loe (1518–1565) was a 16th-century English soldier, politician and courtier. He was the third husband of Bess of Hardwick, his second wife. His official positions included Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard, Chief Butler of England and Member of Parliament for Derbyshire .
Biography. As Princess Elizabeth’s servant St. Loe was charged with complicity in Wyatt’s rebellion and committed to the Tower 28 Feb. 1554. He was fined £2,200 and released in January 1555. When his mistress became Queen his loyalty to her was recognized by an annuity and the captainship of the guard.

22 de mar. de 2022 · By the time Elizabeth Tudor ascended the throne in November 1558, Bess had married Sir William St Loe, a widower from an ancient and noble family. Her third husband brought her even greater riches than Cavendish. He also provided an entrée into the Elizabethan household, of which he was a member.
After Sir William’s sudden death in 1557 she married her third husband, Sir William St Loe, one of Queen Elizabeth’s courtiers, and herself soon became an intimate friend of the queen. When St Loe died suddenly in 1565 he left everything to Bess.
