Black Schools Matter. The Barbara A. Sizemore Academy is an Afrocentric school in Chicago that city school officials targeted for closure in 2015. But a group of 7th and 8th grade filmmakers and their teacher were not going to stand for it.
In Englewood, an African-American neighborhood in Chicago, children attend the Barbara A. Sizemore Academy, an “urban village" where self-esteem and respect for African culture prevail. One day, the principal announces the school is slated to close at the end of the year.
