Captain Bambridge died in 1943 as a result of a chill caught whilst out shooting on the estate. Elsie Bambridge was the only surviving child of Rudyard Kipling and used her inheritance and the substantial royalties from his books to refurbish and refurnish Wimpole for the next thirty years.
