Hamilton (The Federalist, I, cxxviii, cxxix) found several statements in essay 57 that are similar to statements in H’s notes for his speech before the New York Ratifying Convention on June 20, 1788.
Federalist No. 57 is an essay by James Madison, the fifty-seventh of The Federalist Papers. It was first published by The New York Packet on February 19, 1788, under the pseudonym Publius, the name under which all The Federalist papers were published.
