Operação Eagle Claw [1] foi uma operação militar norte-americana ordenada pelo presidente Jimmy Carter com o objetivo de tentar pôr fim à crise de reféns no Irã pelo resgate de 52 americanos mantidos em cativeiro na embaixada dos Estados Unidos em Teerã, em 24 de abril de 1980.
Operation Eagle Claw was a failed operation by the United States Armed Forces ordered by U.S. President Jimmy Carter to attempt the rescue of 53 embassy staff held captive at the Embassy of the United States, Tehran on 24 April 1980.
Depois de duas horas, e com autorização presidencial, a operação Eagle Claw foi abortada. Mas não foi só isso: em solo, durante as operações de reabastecimento, um RH-53 acabou colidindo com um EC-130. Cinco dos 14 tripulantes do avião e cinco de oito tripulantes do RH-53 morreram na explosão.
