Raymond Alvin Jackson is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He joined the court in 1993 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton (D). Jackson assumed senior status on November 23, 2021.

Judge Raymond A. Jackson’s career has been dedicated to public service. As a captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Army, he served as Chief Defense Counsel at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, representing soldiers in over 300 courts-martial.
Judge Raymond Jackson ’73 sits on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993, he was the first African-American federal judge to serve in South Hampton Roads.
