Margaret Bryan (1759-1836(?)) was an English natural philosopher and educator, and the author of standard scientific textbooks. She was schoolmistress of a school located at various times in Blackheath , at Cadogan Place , and in Margate at Bryan House above the yet to be discovered Margate Caves.

It contains lectures on a variety of popular scientific subjects such as astronomy, magnetism, optics and electricity and its copiously illustrated with plates, many of which were designed by Bryan herself.

Published in 1806, it is an unusual treatise on a subject that few women at the time pursued – science. The book itself is handsome, with gold tooled binding and marbled edges. It features a frontispiece portrait of Bryan.
