1 de nov. de 2017 · Blog Home. In Delhi’s Coronation Park on January 1, 1877, the British monarch Queen Victoria (1837-1901) assumed a new title: Qaisar-i Hind, the Empress of India. Victoria’s proclamation was the central event of the jalsah-i qaisari, a massive imperial assemblage otherwise known in English as the Delhi Durbar.

The King and Queen left Portsmouth on 11 November aboard RMS Medina, a new P&O ocean liner, arriving in Delhi on 7 December in a grand State Entry through the city gates in which 50,000 troops participated, led by Lord Kitchener, the Commander-in-Chief, India.
This detailed narrative of the 1911 royal tour of India was written by The Hon. John Fortescue, a British military historian and the Royal Librarian at Windsor Castle. Like the Padshahnama, and other Mughal history texts, it describes all the daily public activities of the King-Emperor. This is King George V’s copy.
