The 1949 Swiss Grand Prix was a Grande Épreuve, held on July 3. The race was won by Alberto Ascari in a Ferrari, after polesitter and early leader Giuseppe Farina 's Maserati retired. Ascari's teammate, Luigi Villoresi, finished second ahead of Raymond Sommer in a Talbot-Lago - Talbot .
1950 saw the Swiss Grand Prix being inducted as part of the new Formula One World Championship (although at the time, all the races were run in Europe except the Indianapolis 500, but this race was not run to F1 regulations).
