Thomas le Despenser, K.G., 5th Lord le Despenser, Earl of Gloucester. He succeeded his father in 1375 as Lord Despenser. He was created Earl of Gloucester September 29, 1397. He was also Constable of Gloucester Castle, Constable of St. Briavel's Castle, Warden of the Forest of Dean (1397), and Knight of the Passion of Jesus Christ.

Thomas le Despenser, 1st Earl of Gloucester was born on 22 September 1373. He was the son of Edward Despenser, 5th Lord le Despenser and Elizabeth Burghersh. He married Constance Langley, daughter of Edmund of Langley, 1st Duke of York and Isabella de Castilla, between 16 April 1378 and 7 November 1389.

7 de nov. de 2015 · Thomas le Despenser was a great supporter of Richard II, he was involved in the arrest and prosecution of the Appellant lords, the Duke of Gloucester and the Earl of Arundel in 1397; in return for which he received a share of their lands. And on the 29th September 1397, le Despenser was created Earl of Gloucester.
