Guest was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1941. He was an original member of Gladys Knight & the Pips along with his sister Eleanor Guest and cousins Brenda, Gladys and Merald "Bubba" Knight.
On September 4, 1952, Gladys, Bubba, sister Brenda and their cousins William and Eleanor Guest began performing together during Bubba's tenth birthday party after a record player malfunctioned. Shortly afterwards, the quintet agreed to form a group under the insistence of Gladys' mother Elizabeth Knight.

Eleanor Guest was an original member of "Gladys Knight & The Pips." She was the daughter of John Guest and Margaret Mozelle. She passed away in 1997 at the age of 57.
