Martyrs of the Alamo (also known as The Birth of Texas) is a 1915 American historical war drama film written and directed by Christy Cabanne. The film is based on the historical novel of the same name by Theodosia Harris, and features an ensemble cast including Sam De Grasse, Douglas Fairbanks, Walter Long and Alfred Paget. [1]

Griffith, who the year before had directed the single most racist blockbuster film in US history, The Birth of a Nation, replete with African-American rapists—actually wild-eyed white actors in blackface—and avenging Ku Klux Klansmen.

In 1836, during the Mexican revolution in which Texas obtains its freedom, 250 Americans under Colonel Travis, including Davy Crockett and James Bowie, capture the Alamo against 5,000 Mexicans under General Santa Anna.
