Westley Richards is a British manufacturer of guns and rifles and also a well established gunsmith. The company was founded in 1812 by William Westley Richards , who was responsible for the early innovation of many rifles used in wars featuring the British Army during the 1800s.

William Westley Richards founded his gun making business in Birmingham in 1812 and soon established a reputation for excellent workmanship and innovation that continues to this day. His son Westley Richards took over in 1840 and ran the business until his retirement in 1872.

Markings: The left shoulder of the barrel is marked “.45”, the top of the barrel is marked “WHITWORTH PATENT”, and the right shoulder is marked “483”.
The monkey tail action itself, behind the barrel, is nicely marked WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT. Lock is marked WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO and dated 1867 inside a triangle. The gun is serial number 6480. The butt plate, trigger guard and nose cap are all of brass, cleaning rod is steel.
